Day, after day, after day—Roskamp flaking mills run, and run, and run. The rolls and bearings deliver long-term performance. These mills provide the highest capacity and the most consistent flakes in the industry. They are designed to compress and flatten for a thin, uniform product with maximum nutritional potential. With the greatest efficiency and ease of operation, Roskamp flaking mills are backed by the best support in the industry—and it’s available anywhere you are. Oilseed Industry Roskamp Flaking mills are commonly used in oilseed applications to prepare materials for mechanical or solvent extraction. Flaking increases the surface area of the material and reduces the distance the oil or solvent must travel. For certain high-oil materials, flaking also ruptures some of the oil "cells," releasing the oil for easier extraction. Materials commonly flaked for oil extraction include soybeans, canola/rape seed, sunflower and safflower seed, cottonseed, corn germ, palm kernel, and copra (coconut). Steam-Flaked Grains In animal feeding, steam-flaked grains are used to improve feed efficiency and increase meat and milk production. Whole grains (corn, barley, wheat and rye) are conditioned with live steam to increase the temperature and moisture level, and then flaked between large diameter rolls. Flaking increases the surface area of the grain, and causes a percentage of the starch to be gelatinized. Both the feed form and increased levels of starch gelatinization improve the bio-availability of the energy and nutrients available in the grain.
